The right clothing at the TORTOUR 2021

TORTOUR poses a major challenge for people, bikes and clothing. It is therefore important that the right material is chosen, especially when crossing passes at night. A change of temperature requires that the fullest possible range of cycling clothing must be carried. Our partner Giordana has therefore provided you with the most important tips for choosing the right clothing for the TORTOUR 2021.

Clothing checklist

On hot summer days, cycling clothing can usually be reduced to a minimum. At TORTOUR, however, despite mostly sunny weather, suitable clothes for wind, rain and cold should always be carried. The duration of our event prevents planning security and freezing temperatures or a sudden thunderstorms must always be expected. The following clothing should therefore always be carried:

Those participants who travel without an accompanying crew have the possibility to place clothing and other utilities at certain time stations and can dress according to weather conditions. Participants with an accompanying crew should carry a full a range of clothing to prevent any risk of overheating and hypothermia.

How to survive this TORTOUR

Over time, every pair of cycling pants on the TORTOUR becomes uncomfortable, so it is advisable to always have a few fresh shorts with you. New cycling pants refresh this ordeal and your saddle stays comfortable for as long as possible. If you have ordered the cycling pants of our partner from Giordana especially for the TORTOUR, you should have worn them once or twice in advance and wash them thoroughly before first use.

How do I master hot ascents and cold descents at TORTOUR? A question that has already been asked to us as organizers and is a matter of concern to us every year. In order to cross an Alpine pass as cool as possible, it is recommended to wear a well-ventilated summer jersey. That’s why our clothing partner has developed the VERO FORMA LYTE jersey especially for the TORTOUR, which is precisely designed for such hot climbs. Each participant will be given such a jersey before the start.

As soon as Klausen, Oberalp or Lukmanier is reached, the jersey no longer adequately protects against the emerging wind. Therefore, it is advisable to carry a jacket with membrane, so that the jacket protects you from the wind and also provides sufficient insulation for a long descent.
