PREMIERE: TOUR DE SUISSE AND TORTOUR USE VIRTUAL REALITY

The Tour de Suisse is available to all people – around the globe.

In the middle of December with the road bike on the Oberalp Pass? In shorts like in summer? This is now a reality. The tour de Suisse’s groundbreaking and comprehensive digital cycling partnership with ROUVY makes this possible. Based on real track pictures, every professional and amateur athlete now experiences the Tour de Suisse on the home trainer – even before it takes place.

With Digital Cycling, not only the road bike is real, but also the resistance that the smart trainer puts on the pedals, while on the monitor the track passes in real time and as a real-life video image. In the future, every cyclist worldwide will be able to ride the track highlights of the eight Tour de Suisse stages 2020 at home. From the start line to the mountain passes and the advertising to the Flame Rouge and the finish line – everything was thought of.

The realistic representations of the route simulations make the Digital Cycling of the Tour de Suisse an exciting platform for Swiss tourism. Digital Cycling transports a postcard image of Switzerland as a cycling country into the living rooms of the worldwide cycling community.

But the new system is promising not only for hobby cyclists, but also for professionals. Many of them train in the winter months, besides the training camps in the south at home on a smarttrainer. Thanks to the 1:1 stage simulations of the Tour de Suisse Digital Cycling, the professionals can now rehearse the track specialities of the Tour de Suisse already in the cold winter.

The Swiss time trial champion Stefan Küng sees the tour de Suisse collaboration with ROUVY as an interesting development. “I’m sure I’ll try this. The approach of being able to drive the right stage tracks is very promising, especially with regard to the specific race preparation, 1:1 track simulations are exciting and have potential.”

While it is interesting for the professional athlete to complete precise training sessions for the upcoming Tour de Suisse in self-study, Digital Cycling also allows the amateur athletes the opportunity to train in groups or to compare themselves with the professionals. This way you can meet for joint Digital Cycling Grouprides via the ROUVY app. In real-life video images of the routes, participants see the participants, in addition to a 3D representation of themselves.

This community aspect promotes motivation to train on indoor in cold winter days. This is precisely the segment targeted by the extended commitment of the Tour de Suisse with the tour offers on ROUVY. TORTOUR, the world’s leading ultracycling race in terms of number of participants, will launch regular group rides and training offers. These group trainings are conducted exclusively by a Swiss ex-professional – all on ROUVY Digital Cycling.

The Czech provider ROUVY is one of the most popular providers of indoor training software solutions in the cycling community. Founded in 2003 by the cycling-loving Samek brothers in South Bohemia, ROUVY differs from other providers thanks to realistic representations of the route simulations. These are based on real video footage of the routes. In addition to a variety of existing tracks such as the Furkapass, the Stelvio or other cycling classics, ROUVY also offers specific workout training sessions such as intervals.

In addition to the ascent to the Oberalp pass from the Sedrun-Andermatt mountain time trial, other track highlights to all The Tour de Suisse stages from 2020 will be added during the winter. During the Tour de Suisse, a separate TdS Digital Cycling Challenge will take place, among which great prizes will be raffled off.

The 84th edition of the Tour de Suisse starts on Saturday, June 6 at the Start-Hub Frauenfeld with the popular team presentation and various side events. The Swiss Tour begins on Sunday with a time trial in Frauenfeld. On Monday, the international driver field in Neuhausen am Rheinfall starts in the direction of Lachen am Zürcher Obersee. From Lachen leads the 3rd stage to Pfaffnau in Lucerne. The start to the 4th stage takes place in front of the monastery of St. Urban and leads across the Midlands to Moudon in the Vaud. From Moudon we will go to Leukerbad on Thursday in the first mountain stage. The second mountain stage leads from Fiesch to Sedrun the following day. On Saturday, 13 June, a mountain time trial will take place over the Oberalp Pass from Sedrun to Andermatt. The final stage starts on Sunday in Andermatt to the classic Alpine circuit over three Alpine passes. The Tour de Suisse 2020 will therefore remain open and exciting until the final arrival in Andermatt on Sunday.

Until the monumental Alpine passes are snow-free again, you can now train at home via ROUVY on the original Tour de Suisse track highlights at the necessary fitness. And, who knows, maybe Stefan Küng will suddenly fly by!
